Got student loan debt? So do 43 million Americans across the country. Pursuing higher education for many means accumulating an inundating amount of debt. As we inch closer to the 2024 election, the conversation of student loan forgiveness has cemented itself as a key factor in the way many young people are voting. So many young Americans are saddled with student loan debt — a psychological and financial drain that makes it hard to plan for their futures. In late June of 2023 the Supreme Court killed Biden’s initial forgiveness plan, but the administration is reportedly trying to pursue forgiveness through other avenues. More recently, Biden forgave $1.2 billion of loans for over 150,000 citizens enrolled in the Saving on a Valuable Education (SAVE) repayment plan. While this does help thousands of Americans move forward with their lives, there are still millions of Americans waiting for their glimpse at financial freedom.
