Schools in Montclair, New Jersey, are closed Monday due to a security concern, district officials announced.

In a statement posted on the district’s website, Interim Superintendent Damen G. Cooper explained that the decision to close all schools was made after the district received information about a potential threat late Sunday evening.

“Upon receiving this information, we immediately contacted the Montclair Police Department and have been closely following their guidance,” Cooper wrote. He added, “I understand that this last-minute closure may cause inconvenience, but the safety of our students, staff, and entire school community is our highest priority.”

The message did not provide specific details about the nature of the threat but assured the community that officials and law enforcement are actively monitoring the situation. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
